african child lamentation
By Bayo Adeyanju of unlimitedconcept entertainment
You will never see me in the dark, conspicuous and vivid for all eyes in the light, knowledge is light and am bright ’cos I know you will never see me in the dark, conspicuous and vivid for all eyes in the light, knowledge is light and am bright ’cos I know the light, I sparkle like the shining star, but when disaster happen they say it's black day, am kind loving and beautiful with pride, no one sees me when am famous and important, blindness became their disease for the sake of envies, when I failed to climb the hot long ladder of life, they say am the black sheep of my family, my lands are portrayed horror and deadly, jungle and wilderness of hunger and famine, now a refugee, asylum seeker and illegal immigrant in white man’s land True land of Awolowo, Nkrumah and Silas Silas, my diamond and gold beautify their majesty cities, so is my precious stones and crude oil, but they still call me third world, am a true son and daughter of my father, still they call me black bastard in foreign lands, my heart is not corrupt by their drunkenness neither is it by the prostitution of their land, but I move by the faith in my colour, the pride that I was created to be what I am, not a slave, a servant nor a pushover, but an expert, champion, ruler and a hero, over the lands where white collar jobs are not for me, my forefathers' struggles and hustles shall never be in vain, not when am still a black man. Author's note It is a poem base on my personal experience in United Kingdom and other peoples view and experience as well, a daily experience that occurs in the office, on the street and in schools around UK. Also base on some historical facts and economic situation of Africa as a continent, the pains and gains of being a black man in foreign land.
